Christmas Council Office closure and waste collection dates
St Edmundsbury Borough Council offices on Angel Hill and Western Way in Bury St Edmunds and Lower Downs Slade in Haverhill, will close at 4pm Friday 23 December and reopen to the public on Tuesday 3 January at 9am. The emergency out of hours number for St Edmundsbury is 01284 763252.
Cards giving revised times for refuse collection over the Christmas period are being given to every household in St Edmundsbury. These are as follows:

26-30 December One day later
2-6 January One day later
Normal collections will resume from Monday 9 January 2006.
Remember to sort your waste this Christmas! With all the wrapping paper, Christmas dinners, drinks and decorations we’re bound to get through, here is a reminder of what goes into your bins:
Blue bin: wrapping paper, Christmas cards and envelopes, cardboard from presents, all types of plastic bottles (including drink bottles), clean tin foil, drink cans and food tins.
Please do not put plastic bags/film into blue bins or wrap your blue bin waste in bags.
Brown bin: fruit and vegetable peelings, garden waste such as grass cuttings and hedge prunings, flowers and plants. Please do not put pet waste into your brown bin.
Real Christmas trees can be cut up and put into your brown bin but please make sure the lid closes as overfilled bins will not be collected. Alternatively, take it to one of the following household waste sites which will accept Christmas trees from 2-22 January: Coupals Close, Ingham and Rougham Hill.
Black bin: wrap up left over cooked food waste and put in your black bin. Polystyrene, plastic film and bags.
Glass bottles and jars can be recycled at your nearest bottle bank.
Do not overfill bins. Take any extra waste to a household waste site.
Always put your bin out on time. By 6am in Haverhill and 7am in Bury St Edmunds.
