Public toilets get a makeover

Public toilets on Jubilee Walk in Haverhill are set to receive a complete refurbishment which will see them flush with the latest facilities as well as improving accessibility.

Around £190,000 will be spent by St Edmundsbury on updating the toilets as part of a programme of improvements to our public conveniences and is also part of work highlighted in the Haverhill Masterplan.

The scheme will see the ladies’ and gents’ toilets fully refurbished and fitted out with baby changing areas, modern hand washing facilities and energy saving features such as roof insulation, water saving equipment, energy efficient lighting and a new air handling system; all helping the environment. The outside of the building will also be enhanced with cladding, improved lighting, plant beds and trees.

In addition, the site will benefit from a new wheelchair accessible toilet and footpaths, as well as facilities for night use. Security and standards will also be improved by relocating and updating the attendant’s office.
Work is due to take approximately 16 weeks and will start on Monday 7 November with foundation works. From Monday 14 November the toilets will close and from this date temporary purpose built toilets with an attendant on site will be in the Jubilee Walk car. A temporary footpath will be put in from the Travel Agents shop along the side of the toilet block leading to the car park.
