Competition, consultation, news and advice in Community Spirit
Community Spirit, St Edmundsbury's quarterly magazine packed with useful information, is now being sent to homes and businesses throughout the borough.
The back page of the September issue is a cut-out-and-keep guide to what can, and what can't, go in the blue, black and brown bins. Yes, we want your junk mail, plastic containers and newspapers in the blue bins, for example, but no we don't want carrier bags, fruit juice cartons or textiles.
There's also the opportunity to send in your comments about the effect the new Licensing Act could have on pubs and clubs near you. The magazine flags up the chance for young people to win £100 of Ottakar's vouchers by entering the Vision 2025 competition and gives information about various grants available, activities to enjoy and events. There's even a course to sign up for if you own a timber-framed home and want to find out the best ways of repairing it.
Copies of Community Spirit can also be picked up at St Edmundsbury's offices in Bury St Edmunds and Haverhill and from libraries.

Latest Figures On People Born Abroad.
4.5% of Haverhill's population was born abroad. The top five places of birth were:
USA
Germany
Caribbean
Cyprus
India
The list probably reflects connections with both British and US armed forces. The latest figures are for 2001 and are for people born outside the British Isles, so do not include people born in Ireland.

WHAT'S YOUR VISION FOR THE YEAR 2025?
People with an eye to the future are being invited to help St Edmundsbury build for the future by taking part in the Vision 2025 consultation.
And young people are being offered the chance to win £100 of vouchers for their school or youth organisation from Ottakar's book shop by coming up with ideas about what their future will look like.
Organisations throughout the borough have already taken part in two roundtable events, in Haverhill and Bury St Edmunds, and they have come up with ideas about what the future will be like in 20 years' time. Now a Vision 2025 document has been drawn up, based on ideas from these meetings, which outlines what people say the council and partners need to do in the coming years to achieve those visionary ideas.
Cllr John Griffiths, St Edmundsbury Borough Council Leader, said:
"Major trends are bound to affect us and we need to be ready for them. We are looking forward to working with our partners towards common goals to make sure that the future of the borough looks bright for everyone who lives and works here."
We are now asking anyone with an interest in the shape of things to come to take a look at this document and send in their comments. Copies of the consultation document, and competition pack, are available by emailing vision2025@stedsbc.gov.uk or phoning 01284 757611. Comments can also be made online by visiting: www.stedmundsbury.gov.uk
